Stephen McGrath

Stephen was admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Western Australia and the High Court in 2006.  He operated his own firm between 2009 and 2023 practising primarily in Criminal Law with experience in Family, Civil and Commercial Law before being elected to the bar in 2023.

Throughout Stephen’s career, he has appeared in diverse courts, including Children’s, Magistrates, District, and Supreme Courts, along with the Court of Appeal.  Additionally, he has handled cases in the Family and Federal Courts, State Administrative Tribunal, Corruption and Crime Commission, and the High Court.  This broad experience has cultivated an understanding of law, practice, and procedure across civil, family and criminal matters.

He has lived and worked in the Pilbara and has an understanding of the intricacies of Indigenous accused.  He is on all the Legal Aid practitioner Criminal Law panels and has experience in complex cases involving murder, sexual offences, drugs, fraud, traffic and restraining orders.

Stephen teaches as an adjunct lecturer at the College of Law and is a Vice President of the WA Criminal Lawyers Association.  He has an avid interest in cars and computers.
