Our chambers offer outstanding services and facilities and are home to some of Western Australia’s most highly respected barristers who provide leadership and guidance to help you to develop and grow as an advocate.

You will also gain access to training opportunities designed to help you grow your practice. Our practical, interactive seminars and workshops are delivered by current and former judges, as well as senior members of the profession, with seminars covering critical practical skills such as legal analysis, appellate advocacy and pleadings.

Member facilities and services

Francis Burt Chambers occupies seven floors of Allendale Square, one of Perth’s most sophisticated city buildings in the heart of the central business district and within easy walking distance of the courts.

The elegant, modern surrounds offer conference rooms on every floor and use of the FBC MAC on Level 12.

A fully serviced reception and mail room operate on Level 25. Large conference areas on Levels 12 and 25 include break out rooms and are equipped with large screens and video and teleconferencing facilities suitable for court proceedings, mediations, arbitrations, conferences, and seminars. A full-time IT consultant is available to provide technical support.

Members have access to an outstanding legal library, with extensive resources and experienced librarians and library assistants on hand to assist with research and referencing, and superior online legal subscriptions at reduced rates.

Regular CPD events ensure professional development opportunities are conveniently available in Chambers as well as opportunities to be involved in external CPD events.

We also hold regular social functions to foster a supportive and collegiate environment.

End-of-trip facilities and a limited amount of secure car parking are also available to our members.

Francis Burt Chambers is managed by a Board of Directors supported by the Executive Officer and Chambers staff. Our members are encouraged to nominate for positions on the Board, which is elected annually.

Pupillage

We encourage applications for pupillage from practitioners with up to seven years’ experience. Our pupils enjoy, among other things, the benefit of a dedicated ‘cell’ of more senior barristers to help grow their new practices, exposing them to a wide variety of areas of practice and jurisdictions. There is one pupillage intake per year in August.

Interested applicants, please note that an application for acceptance under the Pupillage Scheme is to be made by no later than 5pm AWST on the 31st July by any applicant who wishes to commence practice under the scheme commencing on the 1st of February the following year.
