Andrew Shuy
Andrew Shuy practises principally in public law, commercial law, regulatory law, and general civil litigation.
Prior to coming to the Bar, Andrew spent more than 20 years at the State Solicitor’s Office, where he served as Senior Assistant State Counsel and held acting appointments as Acting Adviser and Acting Deputy State Solicitor.
During that time he appeared as counsel for the State and its agencies in the Federal Court of Australia, Supreme Court of Western Australia, District Court of Western Australia, Magistrates Court of Western Australia, Industrial Magistrates Court, Warden’s Court, Coroner’s Court of Western Australia, and State Administrative Tribunal of Western Australia.
He acted as solicitor and counsel in complex administrative law, torts, government contracting, discrimination and occupational safety and health proceedings, and was primarily responsible for the defamation law practice area for more than five years.
From 2017 until joining the Bar, Andrew was a key adviser to government in relation to the administration of mining and petroleum legislation in Western Australia and regularly appeared in judicial review and Warden’s Court proceedings, as well as administrative matters before the Mining Warden, concerning the operation of those regimes.
Andrew accepts briefs to appear in court and to advise in matters across his areas of practice.
