Francis Burt Chambers turns 62

It was this week 62 years ago that it was announced to the Full Court of the Supreme Court of WA that separate chambers had been constituted at 81 St Georges Terrace, Perth.

These were WA’s first barristers’ chambers. Its leader was Francis Burt QC who would later become Chief Justice and, ultimately, Governor of Western Australia.

Initially known as Bar Chambers, our name was later changed to Francis Burt Chambers, in honour of him.

From those sublet premises on the fifth floor of the National Mutual Life building, Francis Burt Chambers has grown to the largest chambers in Western Australia with almost 150 barristers, and we’ve moved a little further up the Terrace to its modern premises at 77 St Georges Terrace!
