Profile

Sarah Russell has over 20 years' experience in litigation and has been involved in a wide range of civil, corporate and commercial litigation in Australia and overseas. She has represented and advised clients across a variety of sectors, including many leading Australian and international companies, financial institutions and government agencies.

Sarah joined the Western Australian Bar and commenced practise as a barrister from Francis Burt Chambers in 2010.  Before that she was a senior associate at national Australian law firms, Clayton Utz (2006-2010) and Mallesons Stephen Jaques (now King & Wood Mallesons) (2003-2006).  Sarah also practised in England for several years before moving to Australia in 2003 (as a legal executive 1990-1998 and as a solicitor 1998-2003).

Sarah’s principal areas of practice are commercial litigation, construction and engineering and competition and consumer law.  She has extensive experience of bringing and defending complex claims in the Supreme Court and Federal Court and regularly receives instructions in matters referred to international and domestic commercial arbitration. She has been involved in disputes arising from major projects across a number of sectors, including infrastructure, energy and resources, health, retail and commercial property development.

Sarah also advises on competition and consumer matters and is a member of the Competition and Consumer Committee of the Law Council of Australia, Business Law Section. She was Deputy Chair of that Committee from 2010 to 2014.
