Fees

Services | Briefing a Member | Fees | Women Barristers

Members may negotiate fees according to individual circumstances. Fees may be charged on an hourly or daily rate, as a fixed fee for particular services or a combination of hourly rate and fixed fee.

Variables that affect fee levels include:

•    The nature of the service required;
•    Seniority and experience of the member;
•    The complexity and/or duration of the matter;
•    The thoroughness of the brief.

Where a member is briefed by a solicitor or a firm of solicitors, members are not required to accept a brief until a written agreement on fees has been reached. Responsibility for payment of the fee is with the solicitor who briefs the member, not with the lay client.

In certain cases, members may offer their services for a significantly reduced fee or pro bono, depending on the circumstances. Requests for such assistance may be directed to our Executive Officer, who coordinates pro bono applications.
