Stephen commenced his career as an Associate to Justice Kennedy at the WA Inc Royal Commission and Supreme Court, before joining Mallesons Stephen Jacques in 1993 where he worked in insurance, commercial litigation and trade practices. In 1996 he moved to the State Solicitor’s Office where he rose to the level of Senior Assistant State Solicitor, specialising in native title negotiation and litigation, as well as working on a broad range of cases including stamp duty, medical negligence and constitutional law. In 2007 he established his own private practice, Wright Barristers & Solicitors, working on native title and mining issues (including commercial negotiations, mediation, arbitration and litigation), as well as stamp duty and other litigation. Throughout his time as a government and private lawyer, Stephen has appeared in a wide range of courts and tribunals, both at trial and appellate level. He moved to Francis Burt Chambers at the beginning of 2010.
