 Introduction

Sir Francis Burt KCMG
Chief Justice of Western Australia
1977-1988

With his permission, these chambers have been named after Sir Francis Theodore Page Burt AC KCMG QC, Western Australia’s outstanding jurist of our time.

Sir Francis held the offices of Judge of the Supreme Court of Western Australia, Chief Justice of Western Australia and Governor of the State of Western Australia. Prior to holding those offices, Sir Francis founded the Bar in Western Australia in 1961, and, with others, he established Bar Chambers in 1962.

There are presently in the order of 87 members of Francis Burt Chambers, 21 of whom are Senior Counsel. Members provide advocacy and advisory services in all of the general and specialist fields of legal practice. The practices of the barristers in these chambers are greatly assisted by the efficiency and enthusiasm of its administration, technology and support staff, who help to maintain the quality, integrity and personal service that has been the hallmark of the Bar since inception.

The business and business name of Francis Burt Chambers is owned and operated by W.A. Bar Chambers Limited. The company is the entity that engages in the commercial activities of chambers including the leasing of premises and licensing of portions of those premises to members of chambers.
